How do you help someone who might have a neck injury?
I am writing a story, and in this particular part of it, a person is doing gymnastics, and has fallen off of the balance beam, (4 feet high) face first. The person fell because they had already had a broken arm, but continued to do gymnastics, by doing a cartwheel. So when the person put that hasnd down, they fell from the beam, sticking out there other hand to try to help ease the fall. They land on there head, then onto there stomach, face down. One of the coaches saw this happen, and rushed over to help. How would they help, and what would/should they do? When they first go over, they do not know how bad the injury might be, so what would they do first? What if they thought the person was unconsious of had sustained a neck or back injury? Please give me a more detailed answer besides “Call 911″.
call 911, they people should run over to the person and hold head stabilization (you can google it and get more info on it), then they should check each extremity, it’s called CMS (circulatory-check pulse in each arm and leg, motor-check to see in each arm and leg if they can wiggle toes and fingers sensory-touch a different finger and toe in each arm and leg and ask which one you are touching), hope this helps.
